Excursions for nature lovers
A true paradise for hikers, the hills inland of Camaiore are the perfect destination for nature lovers and for fans of art and history. The former may choose among a vast choice of excursions in the Alpi Apuane mountain range incorporating visits to characteristic hillside villages, enjoying, for instance, the panorama from the ancient village of Monteggiori or the town of Casoli. There are plenty of opportunities to rediscover the traditions of times gone by, as in Gombitelli, a linguistic island and a village now famous for its handmade nails and its traditional salamis, or to walk an itinerary in discover of the workshops built along the Lombricese River. Visitors who enjoy sites of historic and artistic beauty have plenty of choice, from the Pieve di Camaiore, a splendid Romanesque church built on the location of an even older church, mentioned as far back as 817, Gello Abbey or any of the other religious monuments scattered over the Camaiore area.
Festival in Montemagno

“Montemango in festa” is a typical village festival offering opportunties to sample traditional local dishes (zuppa del contadino, homemade tortelli with ragout, hot roast pork, grilled meats and more) all washed down with plenty of good wine and followed by dancing and entertainment.

Chestnut festival

Early in November the barrels are opened to taste the new wine, which goes perfectly with the first chestnuts of the season. For the past six years this local tradition has been celebrated with a chestnut festival. Unique, wholesome dishes made from chestnuts give off a rich fragrance recalling the traditions of the past.
